The highlight of our excursions was our trip to Jena. There we had an extraordinarily interesting program, which started with a tour through the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF). There we were guided through the facilities and laboratories and got an insight into some industrial research applications. After a lunch break on the Beutenberg campus we met the Friedrich-Schiller Univ. Jena Chapter. Members of the Chapter are not only employed at the University, respectively at the Institute for Applied Physics, but also at the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies (IPHT). There the current research of the so-called CARS microscopy was presented to us. Afterwards the members of the chapter led us to the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP), where students and PhD students of the institute showed their facilities for research on fiber & waveguide lasers. The extraordinary tour ended with a pleasant get-together.
